We asked some of our students and graduates to share their experiences of studying in the School of Biosciences, and to tell us what they've ended up doing with their degree.

Biochemistry brings together my curiosity for biology and my love of chemistry!

Flo Brand MBiolSci Biochemistry

When Flo came to 91Ö±²¥, she thought it was the human biology side of the subject she was most interested in, until she began exploring and discovered Microbiology! Flo hasn't only discovered a new area of Biochemistry she loves, but also gained confidence in public speaking and written communication, too.

Phoebe Gardner-Smith MBiolSci Biological Sciences

After discovering a passion for conservation, Phoebe chose to study Biological Sciences at 91Ö±²¥ due to the flexibility of the course. Thanks to specialist modules and unique experiences available to her, Phoebe discovered that pursuing a career in advisory conservation is the right route for her.

Kane Dibb Zoology with Placement Year BSc

Kane loved the variety of the Zoology programme at 91Ö±²¥, covering science communication with experience in documentary making, to modelling ecosystems and learning about animal adaptations. They even got the chance to complete a placement in our Alfred Denny Museum of Zoology.

Hannah Hinchliffe Biomedical Science with an Industrial Placement Year BSc

Hannah chose to spend her year in industry branching out into the finance sector, working at Chartered Accountants, BHP LLP. Thanks to this experience, Hannah was offered a place on BHP's Graduate Scheme which will support her in becoming an ICAEW qualified Chartered Accountant.

During his MBiolSci research project, Tom had the opportunity to work with BirdLife International, a global conservation charity protecting birds. Thanks to the skills and knowledge he gained, Tom secured a graduate job with the organisation after he finished his degree.

Dagmara was drawn to 91Ö±²¥ because of how welcoming the city felt. After three years studying Biomedical Science, Dagmara has chosen to stay and continue her scientific learning to masters level.

Ella Shepherd BSc Biomedical Science with Year in Industry

Ella chose to spend a year on a paid work placement as part of her Biomedical Science degree, working at GSK as a Clinical Development Associate. During the year, Ella gained a wealth of knowledge around conducting Phase 1 Clinical Trials, and surprised herself with how much responsibility she was able to take on.

International undergraduate scholarships

We offer a generous package of financial support for international undergraduate students, including scholarships worth £10,000 towards the annual tuition fee.

Applications are open for existing offer holders for an undergraduate degree programme starting in autumn 2025.
