Congratulations to Marco Sensale and Chloe Techens for successfully defending their PhD Theses this month!

Marco had his viva, on Monday, 7th March, held over video conference with external examiner Dr Fabio Galbusera, Director of the Laboratory of Biological Structures Mechanics, Institutes for Care and Scientific Research (IRCCS), Galeazzi Orthopaedic Hospital and internal examiner, Prof Damien Lacroix, Professor of Mechanobiology, University of 91Ö±²¥, the meeting was chaired by Dr Pinaki Bhattacharya, Lecturer in Solid Biomechanics, University of 91Ö±²¥.

Marco studied his PhD as a Spinner Fellow working at Ansys, Lyon with industrial supervision from Michel Rochette, Senior Director of Research, Ansys, and academic supervision from Dr Enrico Dall'Ara, Senior Lecturer in Department of Oncology and Metabolism. His thesis is entitled: Computational models for the pre-operative planning of spinal surgeries.

The photograph below shows him receiving the good news at the end of his viva.

On Tuesday, 29th March, Chloe Techens had a public defence of her PhD thesis at the University of Bologna in a hybrid in-person and online presentation of her work followed by the questions from her examiners and the audience. Chloe was the first graduate of the PhD program in Health & Technology at the University of Bologna.

Chloe studied her PhD as a Spinner Fellow at the University of Bologna, with academic supervision from Prof Luca Cristofolini, Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Bologna and clinical supervision from Dr Aron Lazary and Dr Peter Eltes at the National Center for Spine Disorders (NCSD), Budapest, where she spent a portion of time. Her thesis is entitled: Percutaneous Cement Discoplasty: Biomechanical and Clinical Assessment of a Minimally Invasive Treatment of Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Disease.

The photographs below show her presenting her research during her defence and celebrating with members of the University of Bologna afterwards.
