Your career
Our students graduate into a wide variety of careers. Many students enter professions directly related to law and criminology, whilst others use the transferable skills gained from our degrees to pursue other opportunities.
Your career matters to us
At the School of Law we are focussed on making your studies in law or criminology as well-rounded as possible and are always thinking about your future after graduation. We understand that some of our students will have chosen their course with a view to a set career path, whilst others will be figuring out what they’re interested in along the way.
Whatever career path you choose, we have an unstinting commitment to preparing our students for the global workplace. Our students benefit from our very strong relationships with employers. We work with regional, national and international firms to offer first-hand advice for applications, job assessments and interviews. We also have excellent connections with senior criminal justice professionals across the world, including judges, lawyers, local and national government, non-governmental organisations, police and probation services.
The most recent Graduate Outcomes Survey results (2020/21) showed that 15 months after graduation, 97.4% of School of Law graduates are in work or further study. We’re proud of the work we do at 91Ö±²¥ to improve these positive outcomes for our students, and to prepare them for the world of work. That’s why we run an extensive range of initiatives that will help develop your career prospects.
Pro bono
During your studies, you can join our growing number of in-house and partner pro bono schemes, which provide you with the chance to help and advise real clients.
Employability and Skills Initiative
We help students build the employability skills that employers value. We run our own programme of workshops and talks on topics including Commercial Awareness, Legal Technology and Mooting.
We work with local, national and international Law firms to offer employer presentations and first-hand advice on applications, assessment centres and interviews.
We also offer practice interviews given by experienced law firm interviewers, many of whom are alumni of our Law School, ranging from partners in global international firms to specialist regional and local firms.
A degree from the School of Law can provide you with a number of opportunities. Find out more about how our alumna Jess Edwards used her Law degree to to enter the charity sector with Save the Children International.
