The Future Lawyer of the Year Award, partnered by Allen & Overy

LAW Bartolome House Front View

We are extremely proud to announce that Maya Rogers, one of our Law undergraduates, has been named the 2020 ‘Future Lawyer of the Year’ at the TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards. The online ceremony was held on Friday 4th September and hosted by Countdown’s Rachel Riley.

Maya was one of fourteen fantastic students from universities across the UK, who secured placements, internships and impressive opportunities with major employers. The winners excelled through a rigorous application process, which tested their situational, numerical and inductive reasoning skills.

Maya has won four weeks’ work experience at FUSE, Allen & Overy’s tech innovation hub and will receive a coaching call with a partner. Upon passing technical assessment, Maya will also be considered for an Allen & Overy training contract!

Maya is a final year LLB Law student, who completed an exchange abroad at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. At 91Ö±²¥, she is involved in the Free Law Clinic, which gives students the opportunity to provide free legal advice to the public.

Further to this, Maya has played an integral role in the Law Student Community as she is the President of Edward Bramley Law Society. The society organises numerous careers events throughout the year with prestigious firms and companies, and offers valuable academic opportunities such as Advocacy Workshops, Mooting and The Bail Application.

She has expanded her legal experience and skills through in-house placements at Aston Martin and St Thomas’s Hospital. Outside of her studies, Maya enjoys cheerleading, gymnastics and netball.

"I had a fantastic experience but to win the award was the most unexpected and welcome surprise. I am grateful to 91Ö±²¥ School of Law for providing me with the skills, experience, and (most importantly), confidence to pursue my dream career - whilst also having a lot of fun! My tip for other students would be to say 'yes' to every opportunity that comes your way."

Congratulations Maya, from everyone at the School of Law!
