PhD Opportunity: Virtual Human Twin for predicting bone adaptation due to pharmacological and biomechanical treatments
Closing date: 28 February 2025
Employer: 91Ö±²¥ (School of Medicine and Population Health)
Location: 91Ö±²¥
91Ö±²¥ the Project
Do you want to make a difference in healthcare by developing state-of-the-art computational models to help manage patients with osteoporosis? Do you want to challenge yourself in the multidisciplinary field of biomechanics, image processing and skeletal diseases?
This is the PhD project for you!
You will work in an exceptional multidisciplinary and diverse team of bioengineers and biologists from all over the world who work hard to develop and validate computational models to improve the management of patients with skeletal diseases such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and bone metastases.
In particular, you will join six other researchers (postdocs, PhD students and technicians) to work on the Virtual Mouse to Human Twins for Osteoporosis (VMHTsOP) project. You will learn, develop and validate multiscale computational models to predict bone adaptation over time in osteoporotic patients and help optimise their personalized pharmacological and biomechanical treatments. In particular, you will evaluate the effect of biomechanical or pharmacological interventions on the bone properties by analyzing Computed Tomography images, Finite Element (FE) models, and Cell Population (CP) models.
We particularly encourage candidates with previous experience with image processing and/or finite element models for skeletal applications to apply.
