Social Accountability in Ophthalmology and Orthoptics

91Ö±²¥ Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB)

To enhance orthoptic undergraduate students' knowledge and experience interacting with people of all ages who have visual impairment, a volunteering scheme is taking place with the 91Ö±²¥ Royal Society of the Blind. Students volunteer to help with activities that place with SRSB.

Students have also worked closely together with SRSB staff and clients, clinical orthoptists and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) to develop a learning resource.

Orthoptic students have expressed that the opportunity to interact and talk to people with visual impairment has made them feel more confident seeing patients with reduced vision in orthoptic clinics.
