Our facilities
We provide a stimulating interdisciplinary environment, with access to first-rate facilities. As well as state-of-the-art clinical facilities, we host research facilities and laboratories for tissue culture, molecular biology, materials science, histology-microscopy and electrophysiology.
We continually seek to improve our range of state-of-the-art facilities to meet the needs of our student and research community.
Clinical skills learning environment
The clinical skills learning environment provides our students with the facilities to develop clinical skills in a safe and controlled environment. This state-of-the-art facility provides students with replica dental surgery units including ‘phantom heads’ in which they can practice techniques. The latest audio-visual technology is also used to allow our students to observe and copy techniques being demonstrated.
Virtual reality simulation
We pride ourselves on being a leader in dentistry teaching and research, and the introduction of our virtual reality simulation suite is an example of our commitment to this.
The virtual reality simulation suite provides opportunities for our students to gain skills in operative dentistry, endodontics and implantology that will complement those provided in the clinical skills learning environment.
The technology provides a ‘serious game’ environment where our students can learn, develop and improve their operative skills in an interactive manner in a novel and fun virtual simulation environment.
Charles Clifford Dental Hospital
We have a very close working relationship with the adjacent Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, a specialist facility offering dental services to people in 91Ö±²¥ and surrounding areas. This relationship enables us to translate our world-leading research into the clinical environment, working with real patients.
Our students treat patients under close supervision in various settings at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, including multi-chair clinics alongside their peers.
Dental Practice Unit
The Dental Practice Unit functions as a traditional dental practice with separate dental surgeries.
This facility enables students to treat adult patients in an integrated manner and deliver high-quality care in a well-supported clinical environment. By working with experienced dental nurses and using external laboratories students can gain first hand experience in teamwork.
