We won the competition as we worked well as a team

Boon Kean Electronics and Computer Engineering

Boon Kean is from Malaysia and has been awarded an undergraduate merit scholarship for the duration of his studies at EEE. He was also part of the winning team which competed in the Siemens SustainaCity Racer Competition. He shares his experiences of studying in 91Ö±²¥ and why he thinks his team won.

Jacob who was awarded the Thomas Daisy Walker Scholarship

I realised the future of engineering is going to be electric

Jacob Electrical and Electronic Engineering

After doing an apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, Jacob decided he wanted his future to be in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. As a mature student (over 21 years of age) he was eligible to apply for, and was successful in his application for, the Thomas and Daisy Walker Scholarship which provides £3,000 a year for each year of the degree programme. He very kindly agreed to share his individual pathway to university and how the scholarship will help him make the most of his time with us.

Becoming President of EEE Soc allowed me to put my ideas into action.

Ellie MEng Electronic Engineering

Ellie chose to study with EEE due to her interest in how electronics in computer systems work and in her third year was elected as President of the department's student society EEE Soc.

Hette Stainer

Hette Stainer MEng General Engineering with a Year in Industry - Materials Stream

When I was looking at universities, I enjoyed the idea of doing a year in industry to improve my employability but also doing a year abroad to experience new environments - so I did both. I completed my year in industry at InnoTech Alberta, a research facility in Edmonton Canada.

Oleks Mohyley MEng General Engineering (Civil) with a Year in Industry

I am proud of being a founding member of the General Engineering course society (GEMSoc) and seeing it continue to grow after my two years as Treasurer came to an end. My Year in Industry has led a graduate role at ARUP in September 2021.

Ellie Baimbridge MEng General Engineering (Energy and Sustainability) with a Year in Industry

I can't wait to work with SUEZ for my final year research project and then further on their graduate scheme in 2022. With new legislation regarding emissions & sustainability in the waste industry being drafted all the time, it's a very exciting time to be a part of the Suez Energy UK process technical team.

It made sense for me to undertake a broad-based engineering course to gain as much exposure to multiple fields of engineering

Henry Rong MEng General Engineering with a Year in Industry

I wanted to develop sensibilities for the technical requirements of each field while creatively drawing from each.

Leo Russell-Moore

Leo Russell-Moore MEng General Engineering with a Year in Industry- Materials Stream

I chose to specialise in Materials engineering, as this was one of the two routes into manufacturing engineering (the other being Mech Eng). Manufacturing engineering has always interested me greatly, as it is pretty general and interdisciplinary by nature, and potentially allows me to dive into sustainable materials and sustainable manufacturing, and sustainability is a particular area of passion for me.

Ben was encouraged to make his contribution to the company and in turn was able to develop his technical skills and soft skills such as cross team collaboration.

My advice to students considering EEE is to DO IT!

Mekhola Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a Year in Industry (MEng)

Mekhola chose to study EEE after an internship sparked her interest in all things electronic and electrical which has led to her position as a Graduate engineer at ARM. While at University she enjoyed a year's placement at Rolls Royce and was awarded the Frank Benson prize for her involvement in promoting STEM in outreach activities.
