Profile

Following an earlier career in NHS management, I retrained at the University of 91Ö±²¥, qualifying as a Dental Hygiene Therapist in 2015. I completed my foundation training with the Oxford Deanery and worked in practice for a number of years before taking my teaching role here at the University in February 2019.

I am currently working towards a PGCert with FHEA accreditation, and I am an admissions officer for the Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy diploma.

Continuing my interest in research and governance following my Bachelor's degree in health and human sciences, I took the role of Ethics Lead for the School of Clinical Dentistry in October 2021. I continue to work clinically in practice alongside my academic and teaching responsibilities.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Medical Science (Hons)

Diplomas in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy

Teaching interests

I have a keen interest in collaboration and communication in education, and in particular, the Problem-Based Learning model for teaching. I run an extra-curricular Journal Club for students, which aims to enhance their skills and confidence in accessing academic literature.

Academically, I have a focus on employability, and dental public health. Clinically I have the pleasure of supervising students at all stages of their vocational training and particularly enjoy the process of observation and feedback in order to guide trainee clinicians towards safe and competent qualifications.

Teaching activities

I teach undergraduate dental students and dental hygiene and therapy students. My main teaching responsibilities include:

  • Management, Leadership and Teamwork
  • Complaints-Handling
  • Health promotion
