"I knew about the MSc Human and Molecular Genetics course when I was doing my bachelor degree’s final year project where Dr. Adam Hodgson, MSc Course Director, was my supervisor. During this course, I gained hands-on experience on handling Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells as well the human lymphoblastic cells. We had the chance to choose our own project and I was under the CHO cell project. We could plan our own schedule and experiment set-up like a PhD student does but with more help from our supervisors and lab assistants. The proactive learning process helped me to really understand all the aspects of an experiment including the underlying mechanisms. Also, group- and pair-work were beneficial since it is normal to feel anxious while working alone especially having no previous knowledge nor experience. Thus, I would definitely say this course works perfectly as a PhD preparation platform.

"The writing skills I gained during this masters course definitely helped me to secure my current role since my job is writing-based. We wrote a number of assignments and the set titles were quite broad and students were free to choose any topic relating to DNA repair mechanisms. I quite like this idea where everyone could do their own research and decide on their titles. Most importantly, lecturers put in effort to mark every essay and returned them with detailed feedback so that we could make improvements and resubmit.

I think University of 91Ö±²¥ has equipped me with sufficient (both broad and specific) background knowledge for my current needs and my university life I had been a very nice time I enjoyed it a lot.

"My current role as a Biotechnology Specialist covers the workload of proofreading the bio-related patent application claims as well as designing arguments and making amendments to make sure they conform with the Japanese patent laws. One of the pros of this job is that I come across many inventions which are still under patent application so I get to read about innovative, undisclosed ideas.
