Research interests

In our lab we use Biophysics tools to explore the wonders of biological systems, mainly Bacteria. The main tools we use are microscopes, both unique techniques such as Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and STORMforce or more common approaches like optical fluorescence and super-resolution fluorescence microscopes such as Stochastic Optical Reconstruction Microscopy (STORM). We have achieved the best resolution ever in any technique of the cell wall of Streptococcus pneumoniae, which is our primarily bacteria of study. But we also focus on other organisms like Bacillus subtilis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In our group we also spent a big part of our research time using and creating Open-source Image Analysis tools to analyse our microscopy images. These tools are easy to use by everyone, from Biologists, chemists and physicists to computer engineers.
