Animal reproduction and conservation

Reproductive failure is a major issue for many threatened species, and is often a barrier to conservation success. But what are the main drivers of reproductive failure in wild animal populations, and how can advances in fertility research lead to more effective conservation interventions?

This taster session will be led by Dr Nicola Hemmings, a leading researcher in the fields of animal reproduction, behaviour, and conservation.

We'll cover the biology of fertilisation and early embryo development, explain how we study these processes in wild animal populations, and give you the chance to understand how this work informs conservation science in our rapidly changing world.

This session is suitable for students in years 12 and 13.
