Profile

I joined the UoS Clinical Skills team in 2017. Prior to this, I worked in the Fire Service where I first developed an interest in the treatment and care of casualties. I then spent several years working in operating theatres, first as an Operating Department Practitioner, before going on to train and work as an AP in anaesthesia.

In my current role, I plan and deliver clinical skills teaching and assessment sessions for undergraduate medical, dental and nursing students, as well as helping to support the Medical School’s ‘Patients as Educators’ programme.  I also maintain a network of contacts across a range of clinical disciplines to help ensure CS educational resources, policies and procedures are relevant and up to date.

My current area of interest lies in the theory of observation and assessment, and how this relates to the provision of teaching, student learning, and skill acquisition. Through my work, I am part of a team currently driving exciting change in this area of the CS curriculum, which I passionately believe will benefit future cohorts of MBChB students.

I have particular interests in medical simulation, provision of life support, and human factors principles as related to healthcare. I'm also a keen supporter of several student societies, and provide CS support to these whenever possible.

Registered practitioner (ODP) with The Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Member of the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH)
