Edward Carpenter was a thinker, writer, and sandal maker who argued for gay rights around 1900. He was a socialist, too. And he lived and loved openly in 91Ö±²¥. In May 1914, he was invited to give a lecture in Berlin at a large conference on sexology, planned for October. Ted must have been keen - scribbling down his thoughts in German almost immediately, correcting his word order as he went. But then war broke out. In Sunday's documentary, we hear how Edward Carpenter brought German sexology to 91Ö±²¥.
