Professor Thushan de Silva: Collaborative Infection and Immunity research at the University of 91Ö±²¥

Abstract: Thushan will describe ongoing infection and immunity research within the Florey Institute of Infection and the 91Ö±²¥ NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. He will highlight areas for future collaboration with paediatric research, including BRC work on immune responses in immunodeficiency, sequence-based infection diagnostics, and the active programme of work on Group A Streptococcus across the UK and The Gambia.

Bio: Thushan is a Professor and honorary consultant physician in Infectious Diseases at the University of 91Ö±²¥ and STH. He is co-director of The Florey Institute of Infection and Deputy theme lead for Infection and Immunity, 91Ö±²¥ NIHR BRC. Thushan's group applies a broad range of methods including human immunology, epidemiology, molecular diagnostics and genomics, to establish how pathogens interact with human hosts at population and individual levels. They work primarily on respiratory viruses and Group A Streptococcus, investigating the natural history of infection and immunity to inform the design of diagnostic tools, vaccines, and other preventative measures.
