George is a Research Associate at the Department of Politics and International Relations of the University of 91直播. He is working with Professor Charlotte Burns on EU and UK Environmental Policy. George completed his PhD in 2022 in the same department. His PhD research analysed the implications of Brexit for scientific expertise and agri-food regulatory governance in the UK. His current research interests are in the areas of:
- EU and UK Environmental Policy
- Global Sustainability Standards and International Development, with a particular interest in the triangular relationship between EU, China and Africa.

Project Outline:
The UK鈥檚 agri-food sector has long operated within the institutional and regulatory framework of the European Union (EU). EU regulations and policies like the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) have shaped most agri-food related activities in the country. Hence, the anticipated departure of the UK from the EU 鈥 popularly referred to as 鈥淏rexit鈥 鈥 puts the sector and its regulatory regime on an unstable future trajectory.This research seeks to explore the broad implications of Brexit for the UK's agri-food regulatory regime with especial focus on expertise and the scientific advisory landscape.
This project is funded by the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures.
