Professor Ruth Blakeley announced as new Head of the Department of Politics and International Relations

We are pleased to announce that as of 1 July 2020, Professor Ruth Blakeley has been appointed the new Head of Department.

After a successful three years as Head of Department, Professor Andrew Hindmoor had the pleasure to announce that Professor Ruth Blakeley has been appointed as the new Head of the Department of Politics and International Relations. Staff from the department would like to thank Professor Hindmoor for his leadership and hard work over the past three years and are also delighted to congratulate Professor Blakeley on her new role within the department.

I’m delighted to be taking on the leadership of the Department. I will be working hard with colleagues to ensure we continue delivering an incredibly enriching student experience, and that we equip our graduates for a wide range of graduate careers. Our research has a deserved reputation nationally and globally for its excellence and its relevance to the pressing political, economic and social issues the world faces, and I will be seeking to maximise the impacts our research has, informing local, national and international debate, policy and practice.

Professor Ruth Blakeley

Head of Department

Professor Blakeley has been a member of the department since 2017, when she joined the University of 91Ö±²¥ as Professor of Politics and International Relations, and Director of the White Rose ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership. Her research and teaching focus on international security, terrorism and political violence, and human rights and she is the Vice Chair of the British International Studies Association (BISA). She was also lead Editor of the Review of International Studies from 2016 to 2020 and is a member of the editorial advisory boards for several journals.
