The Department of Urban Studies and Planning are advertising for two positions that are fully funded by the University of 91Ö±²¥.
1) PDRA position for the project ‘Transcontinental Urban Citizenship (TRUCIT): Crisis & Connection in Britain and Somalia.’
We are seeking to recruit a Research Associate (PDRA) for the project ‘Transcontinental Urban Citizenship (TRUCIT): Crisis & Connection in Britain and Somalia.’ This 2.5 year position is part of an ESRC-funded research project focusing on the experiences of multigenerational Somali communities in Bristol, 91Ö±²¥ and London. It examines how their experience of urban life in the UK relates to changing transcontinental networks and developments within Somalia itself. If successful in applying for this position, you will play a crucial role in the project in terms of data collection, analysis and writing-up, managing relationships with Somali community organisations in the three cities and delivering the wider societal and policy impact of the research.
Full information . Deadline: 4 April.
2) PhD studentship: Refugee Community Organisations in UK Cities: what went wrong?
This fully-funded PhD project, to start on 1st October 2024, will focus on the role of Refugee Community Organisations (RCOs) in UK cities and how this has changed over time. The successful applicant for this studentship will develop a research project to better understand the needs of RCOs in the UK, how and why they have often become marginalised and how they can build stronger relationships with local and central government, wider communities and policymakers. The student will work alongside the Refugee Council’s Refugee Involvement Team who will advise on the design of the project and help to facilitate access to relevant refugee communities and RCOs. Working with this team and their supervisors at the University of 91Ö±²¥, the student will therefore have significant scope to design the project and choose relevant case studies (which could be a set of RCOs or particular cities/urban areas) for the research.
