The course offered the best combination of business and languages to enable me to get the most out of my degree
This course provided the best combination of what I wanted to get out of my degree
I have been studying business for years, from GCSEs through to A Levels, and have always really enjoyed it. I wanted to continue this at university. I chose to combine business with languages because I think this is such a good skill to have. I know it will be able to help me in business environments in the future. I compared many courses offered at other universities but the structure and modules of the course at 91Ö±²¥ provided the best combination of what I wanted to get out of my degree.
It was the specific business modules at 91Ö±²¥ that attracted me the most
I liked how diverse the modules at 91Ö±²¥ were and how I would be able to pick specific areas of interest that I could focus on rather than having to do all of the typical business modules. While modules that include economics and finance are so important, it’s really nice to be able to incorporate other things such as law, psychology and social responsibility.
I want to be able to work in an international company in the future and be able to use my language skills in a business context
I really enjoyed learning both French and business in school so I knew that I wanted to continue both of them. At 91Ö±²¥, it was great to have the opportunity to pick up another language - I chose Spanish. I am taking Spanish from a beginners level so the adjustment hasn’t been too difficult as everyone is starting from scratch. However French was definitely harder as there is a big step up in how challenging the work is. I definitely want to use these skills I am gaining in an international company in the future.
The university always provides a lot of support with study
I was worried about starting university, mainly about how different it would be to sixth form. I was most worried about meeting new people and being able to stay on top of the work, especially when there is more freedom and more responsibility is on you. The university always provides a lot of support with study. If you are prepared to ask for help, it will always be available.
What I found most helpful was using the lecturers’ office hours
University study is definitely very different from school and it took me a little while to find my feet. What I found the most helpful was using the lecturers’ office hours. These are so helpful because the academics are able to offer advice and extra help, but it is also just reassuring. The change to university is difficult, and to have someone to tell you that you are on the right track is invaluable.
I have already developed communication and team working skills
We have already had some group projects, and this has developed my communication and teamwork skills. Having to apply these skills when working with people you have never met before is challenging, but important experience and skills for the future.
I am most excited about my year abroad!
I have really enjoyed meeting so many new people from my course as well as my flatmates and through societies. In terms of my course, I am definitely most excited for my year abroad. It will be so good to be able to gain experience, develop my language skills and be able to travel and see more of the world.
