I generated £175,000 of new business ‘closed won’ for my employer
I loved how the course offered the year abroad option, whilst still being a three year degree
I chose to study at 91Ö±²¥ University Management School because I loved how the course offered the year abroad as a three year option, instead of a four year course. I fell in love with the School when I first visited whilst looking around at universities in Year 12. The people were very welcoming and friendly, and the modules on the course looked very engaging and varied. I also loved how green the city was!
I really enjoyed the international aspect of my course
I really enjoyed the opportunity to not only study abroad, but to look at everything through a different perspective. My favourite modules were in third year when we looked more into how culture and language has an influence on marketing campaigns, and depending on this how businesses should communicate their value proposition to particular markets.
I also really enjoyed how collaborate my course was
I really enjoyed how collaborative my course was with different group projects, assignments and mostly enjoyed the seminars that were very engaging. Meeting new people that had very similar interests on my course was really fun and I’m still friends with several people I met throughout the three years at 91Ö±²¥.
I have learned how to be adaptable and reactive after studying at 91Ö±²¥
Being able to react to certain situations and adapt your plans as you go along is super important as you can never really expect everything that could happen. Communication and active listening are two skills I developed at university and use on a daily basis. The importance of being able to repeat back to someone what they have said and problem solve has been crucial in my career so far.
After graduating, I decided to go back to Canada for a few months
Despite my year abroad being cut short due to Covid-19, I have some very wonderful memories and experiences from my time spent at the University of West Ontario, in London, Ontario that I will treasure forever. After graduating, I went back to Canada for a few months to live and work remotely as a Sales Development Representative for a company called Lobster.
Then in April 2022, I moved to the south of Spain and lived in Malaga where I worked within the same role but for a marketing technology company called Leadoo - this is where I realised I wanted to fully develop my sales career and have grown the most whilst living independently.
I have recently joined a company called Salesloft within the commercial revenue team and have moved back to London to keep advancing. My role involves breaking into new accounts by reaching out to prospects and companies who meet our ideal customer profile and setting up meetings to solve their overarching business challenges with our technology.
I generated £175,000 of new business ‘closed won’ for Leadoo
In the 15 months I worked at Leadoo, I generated £175,000 of new business ‘closed won’ for Leadoo which I am pretty proud of considering I had little experience when I first joined the business. In addition, landing the role at Salesloft is a major achievement for me. I have used the platform before and really wanted to be part of this team. The interview process was very tough with six or seven stages, so I’m proud of myself for persevering and pushing myself.
I’d love to progress my career into more of a closing role
Thinking about the future, I would love to progress into more of a closing role and develop into an account executive, whilst remaining within tech sales. I’d also love to move to Toronto in the future as I fell in love with the city whilst studying abroad.
My advice for students looking to study at 91Ö±²¥
Be your authentic self as you will find people with similar interests.
Join a society if you can - I was quite introverted at university and wished I had joined different clubs to meet new people.
And lastly, have a good balance between studying and enjoying the experience!
