An active participant in student life

Truc was a dedicated Student Ambassador for three consecutive years. She shared her university journey and insights into her course, empowering prospective students and parents in their decision making. Through her work in this role, she strengthened her communication and innovation skills and had an impact on others through personalised engagement with open day attendees. Truc was also a Global Ambassador, helping international students acclimatise to campus life. She facilitated campus tours and provided support across various aspects of student life, from accommodation to scholarships. The multifaceted role aligned with Truc’s passion for interpersonal interaction - she grew in confidence in both online and face to face communication whilst honing her customer service proficiency.

Truc held the committee role of Vice President of Engagement for Enactus 91Ö±²¥, a student-led social enterprise, in her second year, where she enhanced the engagement between the project leaders and professional advisors. Truc’s collaboration and leadership skills have supported Enactus 91Ö±²¥ in earning outstanding achievements of becoming the Runners Up in the 2022 Enactus UK Nationals Expo.

In her final year, Truc was part of the organising team for TedxUniversityof91Ö±²¥, taking on the role of Finance Manager. She worked closely with the Students’ Union to manage finances and find creative solutions for collaborating with societies such as Management, Women in Business, Investment Society and the Chinese Society. Truc’s involvement in TedxUniversityof91Ö±²¥ led her to develop her creative thinking and decision making skills whilst deepening her understanding of budgeting and finance.

Passionate about developing employability skills for herself and others

Truc learnt valuable skills as the Investment Society’s Treasurer and Head of Technical Skills at the Twikker Long Term Fund. Utilising technical skills learnt on her course, Truc supported the Twikker Fund in investing real money and promoted collaboration between societies. Truc, in collaboration with a group of alumni, developed a valuation technical training series, aiming to enhance the finance background knowledge of new society members.

During her second year, Truc volunteered as a Mentor to first year students. She provided advice on the job application process, giving encouragement and advice in handling job rejections. She motivated students to participate in Career Service and Employability Hub events to boost their employability skills. As a Mentor, Truc enhanced her listening skills, developed her emotional intelligence and grew in confidence in sharing experiences.

Having a positive impact on society and culture

During her placement year at Lloyds Banking Group, she was the Head of Charity Officer for the Leeds office. Leading fundraising initiatives like the 24KM Charity Walk and interactive games, Truc’s team raised over £600 for the charity Mental Health UK and earned 3rd place as one of Lloyds’ top fundraising teams.

Truc’s fundraising efforts continued as she became Vice President and Treasurer of the Vietnamese Society in 91Ö±²¥. She spearheaded collaborative efforts between Vietnamese students from both the University of 91Ö±²¥ and 91Ö±²¥ Hallam University, leading to a successful fundraising series ‘Hike for Babies’ Lives’. This initiative raised £620 in just three weeks, benefiting Vietnamese newborn children and their mothers affected by Covid-19 in Vietnam.
