Member of The Dean's List, class of 2020
Sam’s place on the Dean’s List recognises his tenacity and entrepreneurial spirit in pursuit of employment experience and his commitment to improving the prospects of younger generations of students.
Getting business started
Sam has made great strides towards an entrepreneurial career in marketing during his studies at 91Ö±²¥. As well as gaining work experience in marketing with a food manufacturer, he undertook a marketing internship with a strategic marketing consultancy and supported his father in setting up a new security business where he ran an initiative to provide vulnerable people with security alarms free of charge.
In addition, Sam worked part-time in customer service for a local hospitality company, taking the initiative to launch and run a social media presence for them across three channels. He also opened his own marketing consultancy, running his new business alongside his studies and even providing work experience to an AS Level student.
Paying it forward
To give back to his local community, Sam returned to his A Level College to deliver talks to Business Studies students about his experiences at university. He spoke to pupils about how financial situation does not need to affect career options, inspiring younger generations to see university as an option. He has since mentored young people from a variety of backgrounds who have gone on to secure graduate roles at large companies.
Engaging with fellow students
As a mentor to a fellow course mate, Sam supported them through the application process for graduate jobs in the UK, and his mentee then successfully reached the assessment centre stage of the application process for multiple organisations.
He engaged with his student community as the Vice President of the Marketing Society, during which he started an initiative providing free marketing advice to local businesses in need. Sam was also an Academic Representative for the International Management and Marketing programme.
Next for Sam
Following his studies, Sam joined the Fortune 500 professional services firm Accenture Plc to take a graduate role in strategy and consulting.
