Whilst studying for his degree, Edward’s entrepreneurial spirit served him well. He demonstrated determination and worked hard to maintain a high standard whilst helping others to achieve their goals along the way.

An entrepreneurial drive

Edward saw an opportunity to gain real business experience and took it with both hands. He successfully raised sufficient capital to buy London-based formalwear company Just Winston Ltd and took on the role of Managing Director.

The challenges brought upon retail businesses by the COVID-19 pandemic did nothing to deter him, and he succeeded in finding alternative revenue streams for the company to remain profitable throughout the pandemic.

Community spirit

Edward also completed a placement year as a Sales Intern at General Electric Healthcare, where he was selected to be on the Future Steps Programme, an intern-led committee responsible for the wellbeing and career development of his fellow interns.

He threw himself into University life, being elected Communications Officer and then Treasurer on the University Hockey Club’s Executive Committee .

He also completed the 2019 London Marathon raising over £3,000 for cleft palate charity, The Smile Train.

High standards

Setting himself the goal of becoming an officer in the British Army, Edward proceeded to do weekly UCAT tests (University Clinical Aptitude Test) for a whole year to prepare for the Army Officer Selection Board (AOSB). He has now passed the Board and been successfully awarded a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Following his graduation, Edward continued with his volunteer role as a Guide for visually impaired athletes.  After months of training sessions with his running partner, Edward successfully led them both to complete the 2021 London Marathon.
