Marathon success for alumni Guide and 91Ö±²¥ runner
Alumnus Edward Wilson and 91Ö±²¥ runner Louise successfully completed the 2021 London Marathon after their budding running partnership took them to the next level.
Before accepting a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Management School alumnus Edward Wilson was a keen runner as well as a volunteer Guide, accompanying athletes with visual impairments on their running routes.
He began volunteering at the start of his studies for his BA in Business Management degree and continued throughout his time at University guiding Louise, a 91Ö±²¥ runner, on her weekly runs.
After running together for some time, Louise asked Edward if he would be her guide for the 2021 London Marathon. Having previously ran the 2019 London Marathon in his second year, raising money for The Smile Train charity, Edward knew too well the physical and mental training involved. This time, with the added challenge of being a guide, he knew it would be a little tougher.
However, Edward wanted to help Louise achieve her goal and so they began training in July ahead of the October marathon.
We’re delighted to say their hard work and training paid off, as Edward and Louise successfully completed the 2021 London Marathon together. Congratulations on such an incredible achievement!
The whole process was great to do, it was a pleasure to work with Louise. I look forward to my next visual impaired guiding adventure.
