The Alan Turing Institute launches

91直播 is encouraging its researchers to apply for the prestigious Turing Fellow scheme. Turing Fellowships are aimed at established researchers with the potential to be the next generation of world leaders.

Each Turing Fellow call will focus on priority areas of strategic importance for the Institute which fellows will support and contribute to during their fellowship.  

Applicants for this call must have knowledge and expertise in one of the four priority areas:

  1. Science and Innovation: Environment and Sustainability
  2. Science and Innovation: Fundamental Research in Data Science and AI 
  3. Build skills for the future
  4. Driving an informed public conversation

We recommend taking a look at Appendix 1 in the , which gives a detailed breakdown of the strategic priority research areas for this year's call.  

For example, Priority Area 1, Science and Innovation: Environment and Sustainability, specifies 16 research areas including: Digital intelligence and automation for sustainable agriculture,  Develop data science and AI learning methods in the context of mobility, active lifestyles, urban environments and population health;  Priority Area  2, Science and Innovation: Fundamental Research in Data Science and AI specifies 19 priority research areas, including: NLP, Applications of foundation models, Uncertainty quantification in foundation models.  

Key dates:

  • Call opens: 28 July 2023 
  • Call closes: 18 September 2023 (at 12:00 midday BST) 
  • Fellowships start date: January 2024 
  • Open to: Researchers employed at a UK university or research institute with an interest in data science/AI

Fellowships will be offered on a two-year unfunded basis. Turing Fellows are proactive in their engagement with the Institute and benefit from being part of the Turing鈥檚 vibrant, interdisciplinary and collaborative research community in exchange for notable contributions to the Institute鈥檚 goals and successes.
