Profile

Mark received the BSc and PhD in Applied and Computational Mathematics from the University of 91Ö±²¥ in 1989 and 1995 respectively. The PhD was in investigation into the phenomenon of voltage collapse, funded by the National Grid.

He has been a Research Associate at the University of 91Ö±²¥ since 1994, mainly working on the global land surface carbon and hydrological cycles via dynamic vegetation models: specifically the 91Ö±²¥ Dynamic Global Vegetation Model (SDGVM) and its predecessor DOLY, which he played a key role in developing.

A large part of his research has been concerned with utilising EO data to test and improve these models. More recently he has been working on P-band synthetic aperture radar, looking at system effects affecting measurements of backscatter and biomass, as well as scintillation.
