Holly Jean Buck is an Assistant Professor of Environment and Sustainability at the University at Buffalo in New York. She researches how communities can be involved in the design of emerging environmental technologies.
Buck works at the interface of sociology, geography, and science and technology studies. Her diverse research interests include agroecology and carbon farming, artificial intelligence, and ecological restoration. At present, she is studying the spatial and human geographies of carbon removal, and how policy for scaling up carbon dioxide removal can be designed for community benefit. She holds a PhD from Cornell University in Development Sociology, and a MSc from Lund University in Human Ecology, and is the author of After Geoengineering: Climate Tragedy, Repair and Restoration, from Verso Books.
