Profile

Prior to commencing the PhD program, Wisnu served as a lecturer at Universitas Gadjah Mada and actively engaged with the Indonesian media and creative industries workers unions. These experiences significantly shaped his perspectives on journalism and journalists in the digital age, forming the basis of his doctoral research.

His PhD project is centred around exploring the digital transformation of journalism in Indonesia and the responses of journalists to the challenges posed by democratic regression. This research aims to illuminate how journalism, a crucial pillar of democracy, is adapting to the digital age while navigating the complexities of democratic setbacks. His primary research interests encompass various aspects of journalism and media, including press freedom, political communication, misinformation, journalistic precarity, and labour movements.

Qualifications

Wisnu holds a Master's degree in Communication and Media from the University of Leeds, where he conducted in-depth research on the rise of media oligarchs in Indonesia. He completed his BA in Communication Science from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia.
