Key research findings and recommendations summarised in 91Ö±²¥ Solutions policy brief Taking Responsibility: Why we need UK government leadership on climate change and sustainable development.
Key findings from INTERSECTION's research with urban residents in 91Ö±²¥, Nanjing and Jinja have been published as part of the 91Ö±²¥ Solutions policy brief series.
91Ö±²¥ Solutions policy briefs bring insights from academic social research to policy makers and practitioners, focusing on pressing policy issues and offering fresh perspectives on issues of national and international importance.
The INTERSECTION brief is based on cross-national, cross-generational interview and survey data gathered in 2015-2016 by researchers at the Universities of 91Ö±²¥ and Leeds, alongside analysis of sustainability coverage in the British press. It calls for a coordinated, policy-led approach to climate change and sustainable development.
Our research highlights that whilst in the UK people are concerned about environmental degradation, it is seen as an issue that affects future generations and distant others. The policy brief outlines how important it is for governments to lead the way, rather than relying on individual consumption to drive change.
It contains recommendations for policy-makers, news editors, journalists and campaigners working in the field of sustainable development.
