Current students and graduates

You can book an appointment with Student Registry who will explain how to change the gender on your student record. You can call them on +44 114 222 1300, or send an email to gender-identity@sheffield.ac.uk.

Bring any supporting evidence with you.

We can also talk to you about the support available, manage any administration changes, and liaise on your behalf with other University departments/services.

Once we’ve processed your request we can also arrange for any replacement degree certificates and transcripts to be issued in your new name, if required.

Prospective students

If you haven’t formally applied to study with us yet but you’ve registered your details, email us at study@sheffield.ac.uk to submit your request.

Where possible, attach any supporting evidence.

Widening participation students

If you’re participating in one of our Outreach and Widening Participation schemes, send a written request to your pathway co-ordinator to change the gender on your record.

If you’re participating in the Realising Opportunities (RO) scheme, email the RO partnership team at rosheffield@sheffield.ac.uk.

You may have to provide evidence of your qualifications as part of your visa application. If the name/gender on your qualifications doesn’t match your current/chosen name on your CAS application, you must also submit a legal document confirming your change of name.

Examples of supporting evidence

You may be asked to provide supporting evidence when you request to change your gender. Accepted examples of supporting evidence include

  • a deed poll
  • a declaration of name change document
  • a letter from a GP or solicitor confirming you are the same person
