Brian Whalley obtained his BSc in 1969 from the University of Leicester and his PhD from Cambridge in 1974. After post-doctoral work at ETH Zürich he had a short term lectureship at the University of Reading before moving to Queen’s University of Belfast. With visiting positions at the University of Iceland and Arizona State University he stayed at Queen’s until retirement in 2010. Now living in 91Ö±²¥, he continues to research in glacial systems, mountain geomorphology and in the educational uses of technology.

- Glacial systems,especially small and plateau glaciers and rock glaciers. Martian glacial systems, Sediments
- Information systems, metadata in image archives, use of tablet computers in fieldwork
As well as glacial geology, Brian’s interest in fieldwork education extends to the use of Digital and Information Literacies and the use of tablet computers in the field.
- Professional activities and memberships

Brian is a former Chair of the British Geomorphological Research Group (BGRG, now the BSG). He is a National Teaching Fellow (2008) of the Higher Education Academy and sits on the JISC Learning and Teaching Experts Group.
