Research interests

Tosh has research interests in urban history, industrial heritage and regeneration. His PhD focused on urban elites and urban governance in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in the manufacturing town and he has published on the role of industrialists in shaping business, culture, politics and philanthropic activities in Victorian and Edwardian Teesside.

His recent research has explored urban regeneration initiatives, sustainable industrial heritage policy, heritage-led regeneration and the experience of northern industrial centres during the FIFA World Cup in 1966, including place promotion and identity in host city 91Ö±²¥ and sporting diplomacy arising from North Korea's participation in the tournament in Middlesbrough. His current work explores the interactions between urban history, heritage and universities beyond the academy.
