Mechanical Engineering academics support the Fuel and Energy Research Forum's conference activities

Receiving CESL medal

Professor Bill Nimmo and Dr Abby Samson from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, as key members of the Fuel and Energy Research Forum (FERF), recently supported the delivery of the third Clean Energy Science lecture (CESL) at Aston University, which was given by Professor Patricia Thornley.

Professor Bill Nimmo, Chairman of both FERF and the second Fuel and Energy Research and Its Applications (FERIA) conference, presented Professor Thornley with the Clean Energy Science Lecture medal for her work as Head of the Supergen Bioenergy Hub Project. Previous presenters and recipients of the CESL medal are Dr Nina Skorupska CBE (Chief Executive for The Association for Renewable Energy and Clean technologies) and Professor Mohamed Pourkashanian (Energy Institute Director, University of 91Ö±²¥).

At the event it was announced that the fourth CESL would take place on Monday 4 September 2023 at the University of 91Ö±²¥ as part of the second FERIA Conference. This second FERIA Conference, hosted by the University of 91Ö±²¥ is the successor to the ECCRIA series of conferences, first held in 1996 at Loughborough University, and builds on the success of the previous twelve ECCRIA and first FERIA Conferences.

This series of conferences brings together researchers in clean fuel technology, with particular attention being paid to new hydrogen/ammonia-based fuels for power and transport, waste/biomass, fuel cells, energy storage, emissions, carbon capture and storage to mention a few areas of interest, as the issue of global warming associated with fossil fuel usage is tackled.

The conference will be inviting research submissions, which will be open to all researchers and PGR students at 91Ö±²¥. There will also be a special issue of FUEL for full papers in association with the conference.
