Gym refurbishment and new equipment
We're investing in new equipment alongside some reconfiguration to create a new and improved facility for its members.
Update 10 November
The refurbished gym which includes some brand new Technogym equipment will be opening on Wednesday 22 November
Update 5 October
The structure on the outside of the building, which will host the new and improved air handling systems, is now complete and awaiting installation of the air handling equipment.
Work over the next few weeks will centre around the internal refurbishment of the gym, including flooring, lighting and decoration in preparation for our new equipment arriving in early November. Providing everything goes as planned, the gym is scheduled to open in late November 2023.
Our team have been undergoing training on the new gym equipment; to understand its full potential and to maximise the benefits to members. We know many of you are eager to return and we are really excited to welcome you into the new gym and show you all the features and equipment you’ll have to help you get the best out of your workouts and training sessions for many more years to come!
We hope to confirm the opening date in the next few weeks.
Those who have visited Goodwin recently will know there was also other essential works taking place. The pool will remain closed but the main reception has re-opened and users can now access the temporary gym, squash courts, spin studio and activity room 3 via the main doors.
Update 16 June
We've been busy finalising arrangements and we're pleased to share the news that we are partnering with Technogym as the official supplier for this project. A full list of the brand new Technogym equipment can be found .
During this refurbishment period, cardio equipment such as treadmills, rowing machines and bikes will move to Studio 1 - located in the Sports Hall building.
Free weights and pin-loaded equipment will move to the Strength and Conditioning Suite and the former Matrix Studio - located in the Main Goodwin building.
Project summary
The refurbishment project, due to start in early July will include the replacement of gym equipment, light decoration of the walls and a revised layout for the benefit of its users.
There will also be a lot of "behind the scenes" work undertaken which includes improvements in the areas of data, lighting, and the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.
The existing equipment will be relocated to other rooms at Sport 91Ö±²¥ to enable members to continue to workout whilst the refurbishment is taking place.
Work is currently scheduled for completion in October 2023, although any opportunity to speed up the project will be taken as Sport 91Ö±²¥ would love to be able to open the doors on the new gym area for when the new term starts in September.
Any updates to the project will be added to this page so please check back regularly for the latest project information.
