- Profile
-
I graduated from a General Engineering course from the University of Liverpool with a First Class MEng degree in 2014. I then completed a PhD in the research group in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of 91Ö±²¥ in 2018. My research focused on integrated GaAs-based nano-photonic devices for quantum computing applications.
Following my PhD I joined the Department of Multidisciplinary Engineering Education (MEE) at the University of 91Ö±²¥ as a Senior Engineering Teaching Technician. As part of my role I managed the undergraduate Electronics & Control laboratory with a capacity for 160 students and provided support for the practical teaching taking place there. Due to my semiconductor experience, I also developed and led practicals in the Diamond’s Cleanroom. During the COVID-19 pandemic my team developed novel distance learning experiences for our students and carried out pedagogical research on its effects on student’s learning.
At the beginning of 2021 I was promoted to the Technical Team Leader role, managing a team of 5 technicians supporting Computing, Control, and Electronic Engineering practical teaching taking place across several laboratories within the MEE. I also supported the department in our successful application for the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence awarded by the Advance HE.
Later in 2021 I moved to the Operations and Business Development Manager role at the (NEF) based in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of 91Ö±²¥ to combine my recent experience in management with my semiconductor training. In this role I am responsible for the timely supply of custom-designed epitaxial wafers to academic and industrial customers, including management of the infrastructure, equipment, operations, H&S, budget, and customer relations. NEF funding has recently been renewed for a further 5 years and the Facility is expanding its capabilities to offer epitaxy of novel material systems and heterogeneous integration of semiconductor materials and devices.
