The BGN hackathon is a 4-day in-person event, open to all higher education students in the UK, with the aim that the attendees will create, design, build and expand their networks. Hosted by Google, the event is committed to addressing diversity within Google and the wider technology industry.
During the hackathon, students were presented with a challenge set by Googlers and had the chance to produce a solution in teams whilst also learning more about Google鈥檚 tech community and the company culture.
The challenge they were set was to create a game to inspire children to become the next generation of tech innovators and problem solvers.
Folademilade鈥檚 team built promptquest, an app dedicated to teaching kids how to use AI to solve real world problems. She was on the backend subteam, working together with another student to successfully integrate OpenAI鈥檚 API into their application for realtime feedback for users.
She said: 鈥淚 want to thank my brilliant team for being supportive and determined, our team spirit was so positive that even the judges could feel it! A big thank you to the organisers and everyone that was involved in planning the event, I had a great time.
鈥淚t was an amazing experience building the application as I tried a programming language that I鈥檝e considered difficult for a while. I also came into the hackathon aiming to have a great rapport with my teammates and hopefully win the hackathon. This win has reinforced that I truly can do whatever I put my mind to and I do my best work in a determined and supportive team.鈥
