- Profile
-
I joined the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering as a University Teacher in September 2024. That said, my connection to the University of 91Ö±²¥ goes back to my school work experience placement in 2008 - 91Ö±²¥ is my home town!
I hold a BA and MEng in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology from the University of Cambridge (and a BIIAB Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing from Sidney Sussex College Bar). I completed my PhD here at 91Ö±²¥ in 2018 in sustainable heterogeneous catalysis. Alongside my PhD, I worked as a Graduate Teaching Associate in Chemical Engineering and as an Academic Skills Tutor at 301 Academic Skills Centre. In recognition of my teaching practice, I was accredited as an Associate Fellow of Advance HE (AFHEA) in January 2018.
From 2018-2021 I worked at the University of Nottingham as a Teaching Associate in Foundation Year Engineering, before returning to 91Ö±²¥ and the 301 Academic Skills Centre as an Academic Skills Adviser. Here I coordinated the University's Peer Learning schemes. During my time at 301, I was very proud to be accredited as a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA), demonstrating my commitment to my own teaching practice and to supporting others to develop their teaching skills.
From 2022-2024 I returned to the Faculty of Engineering, as a Teaching Associate in the Diamond. Here I designed and delivered lab activities for Engineering students across the faculty. As part of this role, I supported dissertation project students in Materials Science, and developed new lab activities on the theme of sustainability.
Now I'm back in the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering, I look forward to teaching Materials Science, Energy Technology, Quality Management, supporting research project dissertations and supporting my personal tutees.
- Research interests
-
As a teaching-focused member of staff, my research is primarily into effective methods for teaching engineering. My background is in sustainable heterogeneous catalysis, and I am keen to work with researchers to build cutting-edge sustainable technologies into the curriculum. Other areas of interest include innovative short-form videos to support student learning, and using Generative AI to support students with critical thinking and academic writing skills. I also support PGT and final year undergraduate research project students in areas such as sustainable concrete, and reducing and recycling waste in laboratory teaching.
