Helen Smith, the senior manager responsible for the University's careers, employability and placements support for students.
The Careers and Employability teams across the University join me in warmly welcoming all our new and existing students for the 2024 Autumn term.
There is a full schedule of careers events and support services available to every student between now and the Christmas break. Whatever your needs are please explore these web pages, or pop into one of our on-campus Employability & Placements Hubs where our staff and student advisers can explain what help is available and show you how to book a careers advice appointment, look into doing a placement, or find all the jobs that are available for University of 91Ö±²¥ students on Career Connect (in MUSE).
Some of the highlights this term are the big Careers Fairs in the Octagon on the 14/15/16 October, and a major new practice Assessment Centre event on 30th October (morning or afternoon sessions). We have regular CV Booster workshops and loads of advice sessions for those of you wanting to know more about looking for jobs or about how placement years work, and many other topics.
Everyone in the central and faculty employability teams are here to help, from your first day on campus right through to graduation, so please come and say hello and let us know what help you'd like - whatever stage you're at, there is support available. Don't leave it too long, so maybe start with our Chat, Chocolate & Careers day on Monday 7th October - just drop into one of our four Employability Hubs, say hello and get a free chocolate bar!
We really look forward to seeing you, and I wish you a settled and enjoyable autumn term.
Helen
