Jazz Camp for Girls 2023

On Saturday 25th of February, the Department of Music was delighted to host its first “Jazz Camp For Girls”.

Run in association with , the multi-sited initiative (and its founder, Helena Summerfield) was awarded a much-coveted Parliamentary Jazz Award in 2022 for its contribution to music education.

As part of our commitment to educational outreach and widening participation, the University of 91ֱ event gave fourteen young female jazz students (aged between 8-15) the opportunity to learn from two of Northern England’s most celebrated musicians, and .

Feedback from participants identified the enjoyment of “doing things I haven't done before”, and “how nice everyone is”, making for “a brilliant experience.”
