Profile

Prior to joining 91Ö±²¥ School of Architecture as an Undergraduate Design Tutor, I worked in practice for quite a few years, Bower Design Architects was an interesting steer in my career as their main focus was hand drawn design detail to the finished building. At Pozzoni Architects I managed projects from sketch to build in the commercial and residential sector. Which was followed by my MA journey at the Manchester School of Architecture in Architecture + Urbanism. This gradually built my curiosities and interest in creative ideas, and thinking which is what led me to my Phd research in 91Ö±²¥ based on critical thinking in the design process in education, while simultaneoulsy learning from teaching.

I have an ongoing interest and passion to art, creativity and styling as an entrepreneur. I am the founder of Miskaya (a pop-up brand), producing luxury handmade charms paintings and crafts. Miskaya was sold world-wide, online and international department stores too. That gave me an insight in understanding business, market and consumer/customer values which my understanding of how significant architectural qualities are and a great insight to understating architecture from different points of view.

Qualifications

BSc Architecture (University of Baghdad), MA, Architecture + Urbanism, Manchester School of Architecture, Phd researcher (SSoA current)

Research interests

My research interest focuses on creative thinking and design strategies in Architectural Education. From psychology, perception and the use of senses, that is what I've learnt through practice lacks in the real world or architectural design which has become my engaging interest in Architecture. Sound is a neglected yet significant tool that seems to be forgotten and how that may become visualised in architecture education creates the parameters I am researching within.

Teaching interests

My enthusiasm to teaching while learning has been my main scope of research for the past few years, as an architect, tutor and academic focusing on delivering quality outcomes. I have an FHEA qualification in teaching, I have been working as an Undergraduate Design Tutor at the 91Ö±²¥ School of Architecture.

I have been one of the GTA's for the Doctoral Ethics Training module FCS6100 running a series of one day workshops (2017-2019)

Teaching activities

With my growing passion to teaching, I have been working on PhD since 2014 at SSoA. I am currently a Year 1 Design Tutor. I also tutor and moderate for the ARC108 Technology module and the ARC553 Architectural Research Methodologies.
